GLIMPSE OF TAIPEI FROM ATOP: CABLE CAR EXPERIENCE

To the left, to the right, look down and look up – ride the cable car then you will have a total glimpse of Taipei City. Though the queue was a bit long and it took us around 40 minutes to wait for our turn, it was a superb view from up there. You will see many buildings that fill the city, putting Taipei 101 as the center of the picture. You’ll also notice that the city is surrounded with greens.

The journey was very smooth and relaxing, I found myself in total awe because of the wonderful feelings: inside the cabin, the view outside and the person I was with. I never thought I will have the chance to ride the scenic cable car, I couldn’t think of an adjective that would best describe the experience.

This cable car system was built in 2007 (a year after my first contract in Taiwan ended). The cable car which climbs up to the peak of the mountain has a length of 4.3 km. It has 4 stops, which means in the middle of the ride you can have a “layover” and to see other scenic spots along the way. Two of them include the Zhinan Temple and inside Taipei Zoo. The full length one way fare is NT$120 (P192.00) for adults and NT$50 for children and seniors. In 2010, the systems were retrofitted with crystal cabins, providing more viewing angles. 

When you go somewhere north of Taiwan, do not ever miss on riding the cable car! You will never forget this experience and I’d bet you’ll come back for more rides!
